Celebration

Hiko celebrates 85 years in business, safely connecting communities to power the future

For 85 years Hiko Power Engineering Ltd (originally Hamer Electrical Company Ltd) has supplied the electricity industry with electrical equipment, components, and tools.

Our name Hiko Power Engineering Ltd was gifted to us by Ngāi Tūāhuriri in 2020 when the wholesaling import/distribution arm of the business was sold, and the company rebranded. The names gifted included “Pou Hiko” and “Taura Hiko”. The Pou is the centre post in a meeting house and so Pou Hiko literally means the central heart of the Hiko Power Engineering business. In Taura Hiko we have a metaphor for the powerful electrical cable connecting power to people. This is particularly relevant to us as a company with a long history in Ōtāutahi, Christchurch safely connecting communities to power the future throughout Aotearoa, New Zealand and the world.

Today, Hiko Power Engineering’s key focus is on working closely with our customers to design, manufacture, and supply bespoke network connection solutions and quality products for quick, easy and safe installation into New Zealand’s electricity networks.

Hiko partners with leading international suppliers to source high performance, precision built electrical equipment and components with a long service life to meet our customers’ needs and the demands of the NZ environment and terrain.
